Viola Davis, Jean Dujardin Win Screen Actors Guild Awards

The 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards aired Sunday, rewarding the work of some of Hollywood’s biggest names and clearing up (or in some cases, muddling) the race of frontrunners for the Oscars in February. The biggest surprise of the night came for Jean Dujardin, who beat out frontrunner George Clooney for Lead Actor in a Movie.

Christopher Plummer and Octavia Spencer each won awards in their film acting categories, as everyone (including us) expected. Viola Davis came out on top of her neck-in-neck race with Meryl Streep for Best Actress, making Davis the frontrunner for the Oscar. Earlier this month, Streep won the Golden Globe over Davis.

Other highlights: Alec Baldwin won his sixth consecutive SAG award for 30 Rock. Both winners for made-for-TV movies, Kate Winslet and Paul Giamatti, did not show up to claim their wins. Betty White, 90, and Steve Buscemi each won their second consecutive SAG awards, while the entire cast of Boardwalk Empire won for Best Ensemble in a TV Drama.
