The wish of Kendrick Lamar, 25, to appear in a skit on Saturday Night Live came true this past weekend. In addition to performing as the musical guest while Adam Levine, 33, hosted, Lamar also appeared in YOLO, a digital short by The Lonely Island.
"Yeah, I'll do a skit. We clown around in the studio all day; I can do it on TV in front of the camera," Kendrick told MTV News last week. "Put me in one of those skits, SNL! Wassup?"
YOLO, which stands for You Only Live Once, has come to be the mantra for a generation of kids looking to have fun, and not worry about potential consequences. In the digital short, YOLO is a plea for caution and paranoia. “Never go to saunas cause they’re crawling with piranhas/Never take the stairs cause they’re often unsafe/You only live once so don’t let it go to waste,” a verse of the song, which also features SNL favorite Andy Samberg, preaches.
Lamar appears in the video to offer guidance of his own, in the area of finance. “Take no chances, stop freelancin', invest in your future don't dilute your finances/401K make sure it’s low risk and then get some real estate," he raps. He also dresses up as an older version of himself, sitting next to a pile of money.
