In case you're one of the few people in the world who isn't alerted every time former High School Musical, now all-grown-up actor Zac Efron, 24, removes an article of clothing, we've got you covered — Efron's foray into more "adult" roles involves progressive levels of stripping down for films, and his upcoming thriller, The Paperboy, directed by Lee Daniels and also starring Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack, is no exception, featuring a scene in which Efron dances in the rain with Kidman wearing nothing but tighty whities.
Kidman also went to her own lengths to score the role for The Paperboy, in which she plays a southern woman who appeals to journalists/brothers played by McConaughey and Efron to help her get her murderer boyfriend off of death row. Kidman sent Daniels photgraphs of herself wearing sexy lingerie and heavy makeup to show Daniels that she could class it down for the role.
Daniels told Kidman at the time, "'Listen, if you can't do your own makeup on this, you can't do this movie because you don't know the character.' This chick is, well, she's trailer trash …. I thought she'd go running for the hills, but she came back right at me," he said, reports E! Online.
While Daniels ended up being delighted by Efron's performance, he also had some image work to do. "He wasn't my first choice," Daniels said. "I had this idea of this sweet kid, this Disney kid .… But I pushed him and he went right with the wave. I think it's his best work without question. I think it's a Zac that we have never seen before."
The Paperboy hits theaters on October 17, 2012.
