VIDEO: 'World War Z' Trailer Released, Despite Extensive Re-shoots

The first trailer for the zombie apocalypse film World War Z, starring Brad Pitt and adapted from the best-selling book of the same by Max Brooks, has officially been released. The trailer opens with Pitt, as United Nations worker Gerry Lane, sitting in traffic with his wife (Mireille Enos) and kids when they are violently interrupted by a set of explosions and the chaos that ensues. Lane and his family are then left scrambling the streets, where they eventually reach a rooftop and a helicopter for safety. The rest of the trailer, played to a heart-pounding beat, is filled with hordes of what appear to be zombies overwhelming cities in a vicious mob.

The production for World War Z was nearly as disastrous as the movie's content. Originally the film was supposed to be released in December, but there were considerable problems with the script and action set pieces that delayed production and pushed it back to a June 2013 release. It didn’t help that Pitt and director Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace), who Pitt initially vouched for, were no longer speaking to each other when the film went back for re-shoots, according to a report by Vulture. The report also noted that Damon Lindelof (Prometheus, Lost) was asked to look at the film this past June and suggested the movie needed serious work, especially with its ending.

Despite these problems, this first look at World War Z appears to promise thrills, if nothing else. The film will surely draw the rounds of criticism that come with adapting a popular book into a movie, and it will be interesting to see what components of the film remain loyal to the book. Take a look at the trailer below. Will this be blockbuster or a post-apocalyptic bomb?
