The trailer for the latest reboot of the web-slinging franchise, The Amazing Spiderman, has leaked days before it was supposed to premiere at Comic-Con in San Diego. The film is not slated to hit theaters until July of next year, but it is already generating some buzz — and some skepticism.

Directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer), The Amazing Spiderman is said to be an alternative telling of Peter Parker's journey from geeky schoolboy to crusading superhero. Andrew Garfield of The Social Network fame is playing the title role, and this trailer shows off more than just how well he fills in his red and blue tights.

Set to be released a full decade after Spiderman (2002), which starred Tobey Maguire and was directed by Sam Raimi, The Amazing Spiderman has quite a few skeptics to impress if it's to be welcomed with as much critical praise and box office gusto as Raimi's film was. Judging from the trailer, it seems as if the general "origins" storyline, charting Parker's transformation, is falling right in line with the Maguire version — which may come as disappointment to some.

Still, there is much more to see than what's in the trailer. As the last line of this two-and-a-half-minute teaser says, perhaps tauntingly, "We all have secrets — the ones we keep, and the ones that are kept from us." Just how amazing this new Spiderman will be is a secret most of us will have to wait a year to uncover.

I had my doubts about Andrew Garfield, but it actually looks like he's going to pull this off!
