Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere got an eyeful Sunday night while presenting at the MTV Europe Music Awards — and so did everyone watching. Panettiere was moments away from presenting the award for Best Song when a naked man, later identified as David Monahan of Belfast, joined her onstage.

Monahan, 24, a well-respected stage actor who has appeared in a number of sell-out shows in Northern Ireland claimed the streak was neither rehearsed nor planned. "Friends of mine got me in but they didn't know I was going to storm the stage," he told the Daily Mail. "I undressed in a backstage store room and considering Lady Gaga is walking about with a flying saucer on her head, not many people notice a guy with a black blanket wrapped around him."

Award shows have an, ahem, long history of famous streaking incidents, Zap2it reports. During the 1974 Oscars, a naked man named Robert Opel darted across the stage. Host David Niven, never one to miss a beat, then spoke the famous line: "Isn't it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?"

And at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, Sacha Baron Cohen rubbed his naked rear in Eminem's face in a stunt that was later revealed to have been planned.

These sorts of things seem to happen a lot at awards shows.
