One of summer’s most buzzed about films, Super 8, is to be released today, but director J.J. Abrams’s biggest hit this year may be yet to come. Abrams’s next television series will air this fall on CBS and will star Lost villain Michael Emerson alongside Jim Caviezel. The show, Person of Interest, will follow a mysterious billionaire (Emerson) who teams up with an ex-CIA agent (Caviezel) to prevent violent crimes. In typical Abrams fashion, there is a twist: Emerson’s billionaire is a software developer who has created a program to identify people about to be involved in a violent crime. Also, Caviezel’s CIA agent is presumed dead.
Since his brilliant turn on Lost as the sometimes evil, sometimes good Benjamin Linus, Emerson has been involved with a few projects, including a guest spot on NBC’s Parenthood. However, Person of Interest will be his first major role since Lost ended over a year ago. Emerson and Abrams originally reunited for a different television series titled Odd Jobs, which would have also starred Emerson's fellow Lost actor Terry O’Quinn, reports Deadline.com. However, that series was shelved.
In addition to Abrams, Person of Interest will also feature Jonathan Nolan as a writer and producer. Nolan is the brother of Dark Knight and Inception director Christopher Nolan and was a writer for Dark Knight. Person of Interest will contain elements of the superhero genre but with ordinary guys doing extraordinary things. The series has been given the coveted Thursday night slot, which shows CBS’s confidence in Abrams’s ability to draw a large audience. With the show’s pedigree, it seems like a safe bet.
