A shark tank in a Shanghai shopping mall exploded, killing three lemon sharks and dozens of fish and turtles. Sixteen people were injured in the accident.
The scene took place on Dec. 18 at the Shanghai Oriental Shopping Center. The tank weighed 33 tons and when it exploded, four people were standing in front of the tank, according to a report by the BBC. The shattered glass left many with cuts and one person suffered a broken ankle. All the sharks died.
Officials investigating the accident are determining whether low temperatures in Shanghai along with substandard building materials were responsible for the rupture. The explosion comes after a broken water pipe in June caused the death of three sharks.
