VIDEO: Shaquille O'Neal Retires At 39

All good things must come to an end. After 19 seasons on the court, basketball superstar Shaquille O'Neal, 39, arguably one of the best players of all time at 7' and over 270 lbs., is retiring from the game.

The legendary dunker announced that he'll hang up his hat and retire his jersey for good. Though best known for leading the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA championships three times over his past nine seasons there, Shaq started his career by being drafted by the Orlando Magic, a team he also led to the finals.

Since then he's shown talent on and off the court, as a rapper, actor, spokesperson and — yes — law enforcement moonlighter. Despite some friction in the past, The Lakers' loyalty to Shaq runs deep. His iconic No. 34 Jersey will be officially honored sooner rather than later — possibly even before rival Kobe Bryant's. "We don't have any specific timetable on this, but you can be assured we will retire Shaq's jersey," said Lakers spokesman in a statement on Wednesday. "As you know, players have to wait five years to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but we could possibly do a jersey retirement ceremony for Shaq prior to that," he said.

The sooner the better, to hear Shaq talk. According to "Big Aristotle" himself, his retirement has to do with his his age. "Father time has caught up with Shaquille O'Neal," he told ESPN.
