Former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin co-hosted an hour of NBC's Today Show on Monday, in an epic ratings re-match with Katie Couric, who was on her second of five days guest-hosting ABC's rival morning show, Good Morning America. Palin, whom Couric famously interviewed in 2008 when she was Republican presidential candidate John McCain's running mate, was her upbeat, usual self during the televised hour, consistently returning to many of her favorite talking points — Alaska, motherhood, and beating Barack Obama in the fall.
Starting off at 8 a.m., Palin stood outside Rockefeller Center with Matt Lauer, Ann Curry and Al Roker. “I’m very excited to be here with all you New Yorkers and all you tourists,” she told the crowd, remarking on the "warm" weather. Warm? Curry and Lauer were shivering in coats as Palin and Roker bantered about Alaska's freezing temperatures.
Later, during a segment with soon-to-be mother-of-four Tori Spelling, Palin bonded with Spelling over being the matriarch of a large family. “How do you have the time to do it ,Tori?” Palin asked Spelling about her craft and cooking projects, before joking that she usually does pot luck dinners at her own home.
At the end of the hour, Lauer used one of Palin's catchphrases to ask her about her experience. "So how have you enjoyed being part of the lamestream media?” he asked.
“Orchestrated chaos,” Palin responded. “If everything is under control, you’re going too slow,” she said.
