A man suspected in the killing of the head of Russia’s radiation, chemical and biological armed forces was arrested in Moscow on Wednesday, Dec. 18, according to the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB).
The FSB alleged that the man, a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan born in 1995, detonated the explosive device which killed Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and his assistant outside a residential building in Moscow on Tuesday. This claim has not been independently confirmed by Storyful. The FSB said the man was recruited by Ukraine.
Footage released by the FSB shows the suspect, who appears to be sitting in a vehicle, detailing his actions. He says he came to Moscow under the orders of Ukrainian forces. He describes buying an electric scooter and then, months later, receiving an explosive device to carry out the attack.
The FSB said that the suspect had been transferred to the Investigative Committee of Russia for “documentation of his illegal activities,” and that he faces a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
The Kyiv Independent reported that the attack was an operation of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), citing a source in the agency.
