A recently surfaced video sheds light on the high school experiences of Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20 year-old man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump last Saturday.
The footage, which was recorded during Crooks’ time at Bethel Park High School, shows Crooks being subjected to harassment by a classmate. In the video, Crooks is seen seated at his desk while another student repeatedly tugs at his pants leg, despite Crooks’ verbal protests.
Former classmates of Crooks, who graduated from the Pittsburgh-area high school in 2022, have come forward with accounts of his social struggles during his teenage years. Speaking on condition of anonymity, they described Crooks as a “loner” who faced persistent bullying from his peers.
One of Crooks Former Classmates told The New York Post, “He didn’t come across as unusual. If anything, I would have guessed he leaned conservative politically.”
Crooks was a registered Republican but campaign records so that he gave $15 to a liberal group.
This revelation adds a complex layer to the developing story of the assassination attempt on the former president. Experts in criminal psychology often point to social isolation and bullying as potential risk factors for later violent behavior, though they caution against drawing direct links.
The Bethel Park School District has not commented on the specific allegations of bullying but released a statement emphasizing its commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students.
