Three weeks ago, the pint-sized British performer, Sophia Grace Brownlee, 8, and her younger cousin, Rosie, 5, became online sensations when they belted out a spirited rendition of Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" on YouTube, and were met with rave reviews. The dynamic duo showed up on Wednesday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show to meet their idol, Minaj herself, who had some more inspiring words for the young girls.
"Within five seconds of seeing this video, I was calling everyone I knew," she told Ellen and the audience. "I was also receiving a billion emails. Everyone was like, 'You have to see this little girl.' She blew me away."
Then the energetic duo, decked out in matching frilly pink dresses, performed on Ellen's stage with Minaj, though Brownlee really took the lead and Minaj just chimed in with occasional backup. Minaj also had some more practical advice for the cousins. "I just want you to stay in school, the both of you. Music is beautiful but … put your books first and singing second." Then Brownlee began shrieking with delight.
