VIDEO: N.J. Sen. Andy Kim Says Some Of The Drone Sightings In His State Were Actually Planes

New Jersey Sen. Andy Kim (D) said he concluded that the “drones” he witnessed flying over Hunterdon County, New Jersey, on Thursday night, Dec. 12, were just aircraft.

In an X thread posted on Dec. 14, Kim said he had concluded the flying objects were “almost certainly planes” after discussions with local authorities and civilian pilots.

Kim posted four videos in a thread on Dec. 13, with each showing two or more lights moving across the night sky.

Some lights that moved low over a tree line gave off a “solid white light” while “others flashed of red and green,” and some of the unidentified objects appeared to be “moving in small clusters of 2-4,” Kim said. “We clearly saw several that would move horizontally and then immediately switch back in the opposite direction in maneuvers that planes can’t do,” he added.

Kim said he and police officers used a flight tracker app to help them distinguish drones from airplanes, and “often saw about five to seven lights at a time that were low and not associated with aircraft we could see on the tracker app.”

On Saturday, Kim posted a second thread saying he had spoken to police and civilian pilots who were “able to do deeper analysis” and said he had come to the conclusion that the objects were “almost certainly planes.” Kim expanded, saying another analysis of flight-tracking applications was able to show small aircraft in his location that he was not previously aware of.

“I share this because this is the kind of analysis we need but are not getting from the federal government to explain this situation. FAA experts have much more experience/resources to identify aircraft. Instead, I’m left to draw on civilian support and public apps,” Kim said.

Kim recently won the seat of convicted former Sen. Robert Menendez. He is the first Korean American to serve in the Senate.
