The Honduran fire department said it carried out multiple water rescues and evacuations as Tropical Storm Sara brought severe flooding to several parts of Honduras on Nov. 15.
The first video shows the rescue of two minors – a 12-year-old and a 16-year-old – who fell into a flooded ravine while trying to rescue a pig in the town of Saba, Colon department, according to the Honduran fire service.
The second video shows firefighters wading through knee-high floodwaters in a residential area of La Ceiba, a coastal city badly impacted by the storm.
The third clip shows flooding inundating buildings in La Ceiba’s Buenos Aires neighborhood.
The fourth video shows an “intoxicated” man being rescued from rough waves on a beach in Tela, according to the fire service.
The rest of the footage shows rescue crews operating in the Saba area.
According to the United States’ National Hurricane Center Sara was “sluggishly meandering” near the coast of Honduras and causing “catastrophic flooding and mudslides” in parts of Central America.
Weather warnings were in place across Honduras, Guatemala and Belize. The storm was expected to move onshore in Belize on Sunday and then weaken as it reached Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, the NHC said.
