VIDEO: Kim Kardashian Faces Fallout From Her Split

Though Kim Kardashian, 31, fled to Sydney, Australia with sister Khloe to promote her new handbag line after dropping the bomb on the world that her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, 26, was over, it appears that the reality starlet has discovered she can't hide Down Under.

Thursday morning Kardashian cancelled her $150,000 planned appearance at an Australian horseracing event, as well as other scheduled events throughout the weekend, announcing that she needed to return to Los Angeles to deal with the fallout from her impending divorce. "I am very disappointed that I am unable to attend the Swisse marquee," she said in a statement to the Herald Sun, "but I hope to come back and work with the Swisse team at another point in time."

Though Kardashian had previously explained that she was holding to her Australian commitments despite her personal obstacles because she "didn't wanna bail on everyone," she appeared "somber" during the events leading up to her decision to leave, according to Us Weekly. A spokesperson for Swisse acknowledged, "Kim wanted to fulfill all of her commitments once she landed in Australia but has obviously changed her mind given her very difficult personal challenges at the moment." The company tried to convince Khloe to stay as her sister's replacement, but she declined, opting instead to leave Australia with Kim on Friday.

Back in the states, several people seem confused about the star's decision to divorce her hubby … including her mother, Kris Jenner. "I'm actually searching for the same answer to that question," Jenner revealed on Wednesday's episode of The View, where she had scheduled an appearance to promote her own book, Kris Jenner … And All Things Kardashian.

Kim did confide in her mother before making the fateful decision to file for divorce from Humphries on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. "She says, 'Mommy this is something that I feel that I need to do. Please trust me, please be there for me,'" Jenner said, quoting her daughter. "And of course as a mom I'm with my girls through thick and thin and it's tough. It's a tough time for the family and for Kim and for everybody involved. It's really hard to go through this on such a public stage."

Jenner has also chimed in about the 20.5 carat rock that Kardashian's been wearing on her finger since her engagement, after people have been hinting that she should return the ring to her ex. "This is the first time I'm hearing that," she said Thursday morning on the talk show, Fox and Friends. "That's between them — a gift is a gift. If you look at the etiquette books, it says keep a present. But I don't think Kim is as concerned about that as else. I don't think it's about the gifts or the money; it's about what she's feeling. It's about two people and how their lives are changing."

This comes after the web has been crawling with speculation that the entire marriage was a sham. "Stop," Jenner said. "It's not a sham. It's somebody in a lot of pain." Kardashian also angrily addressed these rumors on her blog. "There are also reports that I made millions of dollars off of the wedding," she wrote. "These reports are simply not true and it makes me so sad to have to even clarify this. I'm so grateful to everyone who took the time to come to my wedding and I'll be donating the money for all the gifts to the Dream Foundation," she added, referring to a charity organization that grants wishes to victims suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
