Katy Perry may be one of the most recognizable names in America, but she wants a different one!

The “Teenage Dream” singer, famous for both her catchy tunes and her highly publicized romance with her new husband, Russell Brand, announced on Wednesday’s Ellen DeGeneres Show that her plans to take her funnyman hubby’s surname are in the works. For her, it’s really just a formality; the name already resonates with her. Since her elaborate wedding in India earlier this year, people have already been calling her Ms. Brand “to get my attention,” Perry told DeGeneres. “Like if I’m at an event or something like that, and they want special attention, they go ‘Mrs. Brand!’ And I go shwoosh [looking back].”

“Brand” will actually be the third surname for Perry. No, the chanteuse hasn’t been married before, but she dropped her original name, “Hudson,” for her mother’s maiden name, “Perry,” when she entered the show biz. The switch was done to avoid confusion with actress Kate Hudson.

One thing remains certain. Mr. and the-soon-to-be Mrs. Brand are still deliriously happy. “There’s never a dull moment,” Perry says of the marriage. —KIMBERLY STEELE
