Bad song choices and nervous demeanors reduced many of the top 12 male American Idol contestants to mere lounge singers–and earned the stinging barbs of the judges.
Low points included the squeaky-high performance of OneRepublic’s "Apologize" by Tim Urban, who had been eliminated the previous week but was brought back when another contestant was kicked off the show due to contract violations. The off-key performance prompted Simon Cowell to say, ”Tim, well, look, congratulations for coming back. Having said that, we absolutely made the right decision the first time around by not putting you through, based on that performance.”
Michael Lynche‘s version of Maroon 5’s "This Love," and male favorite Andrew Garcia‘s badly conceived rendition of Fall Out Boy’s "Sugar, We’re Going Down" also received groans and stern looks from the judges.
High points included the performances by Lee De Wyze who sang Snow Patrol’s "Chasing Cars," and Casey James‘s rendition of Bryan Adam’s "Heaven," which left the female judges weak kneed. –JOE GALBO
