Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton dominated the Country Music Awards last night, but it was Gwyneth Paltrow who surprised everyone with her spot-on performance of "Country Strong."

Paltrow, who stars in the movie Country Strong about an alcoholic country singer, had never performed live before. The Oscar-winner is of course better known for her acting chops than her golden voice, though she's married to rock star Chris Martin. Her pre-show ritual? Downing a beer. "I went to a great bar and I had a pint of Guinness," she told The Sun. "That's my new ritual. I'm feeling good!"

The other big news of the night were power couple Lambert and Shelton, who took home five awards together. Host Brad Paisley also won big, snatching the Entertainer of the Year award. Taylor Swift, who won four awards last year, performed her song "Back To December," while Reba McEntire roused the crowd with a cover of Beyonce's "If I Were a Boy."

Co-hosts Paisley and Carrie Underwood opened with a slightly uncomfortable riff on infidelity, as LeAnn Rimes sat in the audience. Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, and Kenny Chesney also performed. Paisley commented on Shelton and Lambert's dominance with an off-color quip. “After the night that Blake and Miranda are having,” he said, “I think we can expect a baby in about nine months.” –AMY LEE
