On the Line follows the story of Elvis Cooney, a shock radio host who has to do whatever it takes to save his family after an anonymous caller threatens to kill his loved ones on air.

William Moseley, who plays Dylan, recently sat down with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss what it was like working with the legendary Mel Gibson on the film.

“I probably shouldn’t tell this story, but I will,” Moseley began. “It was a funny thing because we were on set and working with Mel for me is the greatest. He’s an iconic movie star, an iconic director. For me, he’s the number one guy out there. I was looking at him since I was a child. I used to sometimes pretend I was sick and stay home and watched Lethal Weapon one and two. They had them on VHS when I was younger. I used to watch all of his movies and then obviously when he made Braveheart and then directed Apocalypto, he really had a massive place in my heart.”

“One day I was talking to one of the other actors and they didn’t know Lethal Weapon. I said, ‘Oh my god, you’ve got to see Lethal Weapon. You’ve got to know about it,'” he continued. “So I said, ‘We’ll just watch the trailer.’ I showed her the trailer on the phone. In the trailer, Danny Glover’s there and he says to Mel, he famously says to Mel, ‘I’m too old for this,’ you know, expletive. That’s the classic line from the movie. Then we got called on set and Mel and I had to lie down in an elevator and pretend to elevator climb up. We had to make it look like it. It was actually pretty hard. I was exhausted doing it. Then Mel, you know he’s not the same age as me, he turns to me after the third or fourth time and he goes, ‘You know, I’m just too old for this s—.’ It was like a 20-minute period of showing that girl and that moment with him saying that to me. It was very funny and I kind of just suppressed the smile.”

Moseley also revealed his unique tactic for getting over his excitement to work with Gibson.

“I kind of had to squint my eyes when I was working with him because I’ve seen him so much on camera in so many movies,” the actor said. “I couldn’t not sort of be starstruck, so I just squinted my eyes so I couldn’t really see him, just saw this sort of figure. That’s what I did most of the time.”

On the Line is now playing in select theaters.
