Latin singer Andrés Cepeda’s New York City concert featured two proposals.
Stirred by the romantic music, one man stepped forward to pop the question to his girlfriend. After the first proposal, Cepeda congratulated the couple and asked the crowd if anyone else wanted to propose. A second man stood up and followed suit.
On May 1, Cepeda returned to the iconic New York City Carnegie Hall for his Tengo Ganas Tour. This tour encompasses 19 dates across the United States; it commenced in Nashville on April 9 and includes cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington, D.C., before it concludes on May 4 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Along with Cepeda on the journey is fellow Colombian singer Alejandro Santamaría.
Cepeda recently told uInterview what he looks for in his creative process.
“I try to enjoy myself and please myself. I think if I do that, then people who follow me will be pleased, too,” he said. “As long as I’m having fun and enjoying what’s going on in the studio, I think that’s the right way to go.”
Cepeda, born on July 7, 1973, in Bogotá, Colombia, is the youngest of five siblings. At a young age, Cepeda was strongly drawn to music and immersed himself in piano studies from the age of 5. He composed his first piece at the age of 12. He pursued his education at Colegio San Carlos and later at Colegio Emilio Valenzuela.
Cepeda’s musical career began when he founded the Latin rock-pop group Poligamia as a teenager, where he served as the lead vocalist. After Poligamia disbanded, Cepeda embarked on a successful solo career and explored various musical genres, such as bolero and balada, among others. One of his notable achievements was the quadruple-platinum sales of his album El carpintero in Colombia.
Cepeda’s debut solo album, Sé Morir, was released in 1999. Since then, he has recorded a dozen albums and delivered chart-topping hits such as Día Tras Día and Beso Usados. Cepeda is the only artist to fill the Movistar Arena in Bogotá, the largest stage in Colombia, for five consecutive nights. Additionally, he has secured two entries on the Billboard Latin Pop Airplay charts: El Mensaje in 2013 (No. 38) and Magia with Sebastián Yatra in 2018 (No. 37).
While Cepeda remains an active and influential figure in the Colombian music scene, his most recent studio album, Mil Ciudades, was released in 2015 under the Sony Music label.
Tengo Ganas follows his highly successful La Ruta Púrpura tour, which commenced in October 2022 with a sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall.
Cepeda’s artistic prowess has garnered significant recognition, with his fourth Latin Grammy win in November for Best Traditional Pop Album for Décimo Cuarto. He recently returned as a judge on La Voz Kids Colombia.
