VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Tamera Mowry-Housley On Parenting, Her New Film ‘Scouting For Christmas’

Actress Tamera Mowry-Housley discussed parenting and behind-the-scenes details on her new movie, Scouting For Christmas, in her new uInterview.

Scouting For Christmas, a Hallmark Channel rom-com, follows a single mom (Housley) as she tries to make the holiday season memorable for her daughter in the wake of her father’s absence.

Housley drew a picture of her character. “Angela has been divorced for about two years. She is a real estate agent. She is a real estate agent because she wants to, you know, provide for her new life as a single mom,” she told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “She’s taken major responsibility for her daughter’s life to make sure she’s stable emotionally and, just physically because her ex-husband travels a lot; he has a lot going on. He’s not a bad person; he’s just not the best husband. So it’s important to Angela that [her daughter] feel a part of the community. And being a mom, I know the importance of that.”

She reflected on what aspects of her character she found relatable. “I responded with this character so much because I’m a mom of two, I’m a working mom, and my life can be very – I think blissfully – chaotic. There’s a lot going on. I am never on time. No matter how hard I try, and I feel so bad! I struggle with balance in my real life. You’ll see, Angela, she’s just frantic! I can totally relate to that.”

Housley also noted that although she was not divorced, she had experienced time-freezing heartbreak before and understood the depths of her character’s pain.

Asked for a scene or moment that spoke to her, Housley recalled, “When I’m talking to my best friend, and it’s in the beginning, and I’m talking about ‘I just hope I’m doing the right thing in the right way.’ As a parent who loves her children and who just wants to be doing the right thing, you know, there’s that concern.”

She added, “You never see the instant gratification from all the parenting, so you wonder, ‘My goodness, are they listening? Do they know I care? I’m trying my best!'”

On the topic of her romantic suitor in the movie, played by Carlo Marks, Housley exclaimed, “He’s just like this warm, yummy cookie. But while we were shooting this Christmas film, he was reading this dramatic novel about this family that drowns. And I’m like, ‘Carlo, we’re shooting a Christmas movie, and you’re reading something so dramatic!’ He’s such an amazing actor because he’s really – he’s very serious, he’s an actor’s actor, but the moment you say action, he’s like,‘Bing!’ It shows his talent. I was impressed.”

Scouting For Christmas is set to be released on October 26 on the Hallmark Channel.
