Reality stars Paola Mayfield, Jason Smith and Jill Zarin discussed their experience on the challenge show The GOAT in their new uInterview.
The Goat, a new competition series on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee, is hosted by comedian Daniel Tosh. In it, Tosh roasts 14 reality stars who vie to become the Greatest of All Time.
“The challenges were all over the place, but I can honestly say that none of them were too overbearing. You know, it’s one of those things. I love challenges, so I’m like throw it at me; I don’t care,” Smith told uInterview founder Erik Meers.
Zarin said that she was just glad there wasn’t a Fear Factor-style to the majority of the challenges, although she did cringe at the memory of having to eat a cockroach.
In response to the question about what the contestants had learned about themselves and other people, Zarin said, “You know, I didn’t really learn much about myself. I am who I am, so I’m good. I don’t think I learned anything new about myself—by my age, I already know.”
Zarin said she learned something about herself and others. “People lie! I’m very honest, even in this show,” she said. “I think I pretty much, everything I said I would do I did. I was as loyal as I could be, as honest as I could be. There were people who, from the get-go, would lie right to my face, and as I’m watching the episodes, I’m seeing now what was really going on – so I would say that was the surprise because I always think people are like me, and I always get disappointed so.”
Smith laughed, “I can honestly say that one thing I learned about myself is that I can do a competition that doesn’t involve food.”
Mayfield recalled, “I feel like I learned a lot of stuff. It was a learning experience, but about myself, I feel like… I feel like I’m very competitive.”
Mayfield remembered how she coped with her time away from home. “Something I focused on while I was there because I was away from my son, and my husband was starting to write my book,” she said. That was kind of my thing, that was kind of my little diary, like, all the time.”
When asked what experience behind the scenes each one of them would take away from the show, Smith recounted, “In our room at nighttime, there were so many stories and stuff that had nothing to do with the competition that was going on. We learned from each other, so it’s like that power down time, you get the one hour that the camera isn’t looking at you, so we’re telling stories, learning things about each other, so that was something like the bonding time I think that I’ll always remember because it was a lot of fun.”
Zarin fondly remembered when Mayfield would go to the boys’ room to gather intel so she could bring it back to the women. She jokingly said, “That was her strategy, was to go up and befriend the boys and bring it all back to mama. Bring back that information!”
