VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Puerto Rican Singer Nohemy Opens About Her New Single With Jzaeb

Puerto Rican pop star Nohemy explained her creative process for collaborations and reflected on her new single in her new uInterview.

Nohemy, who hails from the city of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, has had a remarkable journey that has taken her from a promising basketball career to the realm of Latin pop-urban music. Recognized as a talented athlete at the age of 16, Nohemy left her native homeland and ventured to the United States, driven by the opportunity to showcase her skills on the court. However, Nohemy unexpectedly found herself drawn to the music scene, where she has since emerged as an enchanting voice who infuses her music with a fresh sound that reflects her confident, multicultural perspective.

The singer shared some background about her new single. “My new single is called ‘Que Me Heciste’ with Jzaeb… I had so much fun making this song because it’s not your typical reggaeton song, it has some fusion of drum and base which I think is unique to it,” she told uInterview founder Erik Meers.

She continued, “We had a lot of fun in the studio…really sitting down and trying to do something different, something fresh without really forcing it is always the plan and that’s what happened. So we made this song!”

On the vocal chemistry she and Jzaeb have on the track, Nohemy explained, “The collaboration came about, my friend. She put us together in the studio, which I think was really cool. I really wanted to work with him, so that was kind of like the way to reach out and get in the studio with him. Once we got in the studio, I think having chemistry with the artist is key to making a great song. So that was there, we didn’t have to force anything; he’s a great kid, super talented. It was kind of just two kids in their playground, having fun, making music.”

Nohemy reflected on how she achieved her unique sound in her work. “I think that the best music that I’ve done is when I don’t really think much of it and just go with what I’m feeling in the moment,” she observed.

“And especially when I’m doing a collaboration with an artist – before we even work on a song together we jam to our songs and try and find the balance and see if we can find something that is mutual to each other and kind of navigate those waters, since it’s natural and we don’t have to force a certain feeling into it,” she added. “I think listening to myself more and that creative space and what I’m feeling has been key to one of the best songs that I’ve created.”
