VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Olympic Gold-Medalist Runner Sanya Richards-Ross Offers Advice To Athletes

Sanya Richards-Ross, a celebrated former track and field athlete, is thrilled to be part of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, though this time in a new role. Richards-Ross, who won four gold medals across three Olympics, will be working as a commentator for NBC. This will give her a chance to share her experiences with viewers.

Richards-Ross retired from competitive sports in 2016. She said she’s excited to return to the Olympics, even if it’s from the sidelines. “I’m super excited, obviously,” she told uInterview in May. “After competing in three Olympics myself and winning four gold medals, I’m really looking forward to commentating and sharing what it’s like for athletes, from someone who’s been there.”

The 2024 Games will bring back the excitement of live crowds, which was missing during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Richards-Ross felt for the athletes who missed out on the electric atmosphere of cheering fans. “That was a big part of the Olympic experience that was missing in 2020,” she explained. “Getting to perform in front of thousands of people in beautiful cities like Paris is such a special part of the Games. I know this year’s Olympics will be memorable for both the athletes and the fans.”

Richards-Ross also offered some advice for the athletes competing in Paris. “I’d tell them to stick with what has worked for them before,” she advised. “Even though it’s a big year, they shouldn’t make too many changes. They need to trust themselves, trust their training, and just go out there and enjoy it.”

Her advice comes from a place of experience. Richards-Ross is known for her achievements on the track, including gold medals in the 4×400 meters relay and the 400 meters individual event. Her insights will be valuable as Team USA heads to Paris, where they are expected to perform strongly.

In 2012, Richards-Ross spoke to uInterview exclusively about her training before the Summer Olympics. “I always just try to channel that moment of being able to represent my country or to stand on that podium or go to the Olympic Games or World Championships,” Richards-Ross said in an exclusive with uInterview about overcoming moments of stress in training.
