Actress Liz Hurley and her son, Damian Hurley, reflected on their experience working together on their film Strictly Confidential in their new uInterview.

Strictly Confidential follows Mia as she embarks on a journey to the Caribbean on the solemn anniversary of her friend’s tragic suicide. During her stay, Mia becomes aware that each of her friend’s family members harbor undisclosed secrets, and she is determined to uncover the truth behind her best friend’s untimely demise.

A first-time writer/director, Damian told uInterview founder Erik Meers, “This idea I came up with when I was 17. I made a short film in lockdown, and I got a call out of the blue when I was 20, ‘Hey, we loved your short film. Are you open to writing and directing a feature? We’d love you to make one with us.’ This is every filmmaker’s dream. I’d obviously grown up a lot in the three or four years in between, but the basic bones of the film were the same, so Strictly Confidential was born.”

Liz said it was easy to get directions from her son on set. “He’d been directing me in his baby movies since the age of eight,” she recalled. “Every vacation from school, he’d be making another movie, and he had written the script. He’d be holding his little video recorder, and he’d be bossing us around, telling me where to stand, what to do, what to say. So it actually felt normal, except this time with a crew instead of my mother and sister. It felt exactly how it should feel. I was delighted as a producer to help him prepare and everything, but on the set, he didn’t need any help at all, he was great.”

Damian reflected on what he felt made the process successful. “I think we have a vague twin-like telepathy. We made this movie, and we had 18 shooting days, so to be with someone who you’re socially in tune with in every aspect of the world, it’s invaluable. Every minute counts. Every moment matters.”

Liz added another pro of their mother-son relationship on set, “He didn’t have to be very polite to me; he could just say, ‘You missed your mark’ or ‘Stop playing with your air!’ Whatever he couldn’t say to any other actor in the world, he could say to me.”

She added, “We always had a great relationship, but I think being a team on this and the most important thing in my life that I could be there for Damian moments of this, we will never forget for many reasons.”

Strictly Confidential is now in theaters and available to rent on all major streaming platforms.
