VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: Jack Parr Shares His Experience Working With Julian Sands On His Last Film, ‘The Last Breath’

British actor Jack Parr, known for his role in Peaky Blinders, delved into the process of making his new film The Last Breath in an exclusive discussion with uInterview.

The Last Breath follows a group of college friends who reunite on a Caribbean scuba diving trip. They unexpectedly end up exploring the wreckage of a WWII battleship and find themselves trapped inside ab underwater labyrinth of rusted metal, surrounded by great white sharks.

Parr set the scene for the film. “The Last Breath is about a bunch of scuba divers that go deep diving to this unexplored shipwreck, and they get trapped inside, run out of oxygen, surrounded by sharks,” he said. “So there’s a guy called Noah who I play. He’s the central character of the film. He’s out in the Caribbean working for a scuba diving school owned by Levi, played by Julian Sands, and his friends come over on this holiday scuba diving trip. And just before they arrive Noah and Levi find this World War II shipwreck that they’ve been searching for for years and years. So it’s a lot of fun and games. Claustrophobic and tense.”

Parr reflected on his experience working alongside the late actor Julian Sands. “He’s such an iconic guy, he’s got years and years of experience,” he recalled. “So me and him, I was a bit nervous. I didn’t know if he was going to be a diva, or if he was going to walk off set when he had his close-up. But he was such a nice dude, and he really took me under his wing, which was good.”

He continued, “He’s a funny dude, and I think that the biggest thing I took from him in life is that he even though he was getting older, he always kept that fire and kept that enthusiasm. It was like it was his first job; he was so happy to be there, he was so enthusiastic, and I was just like, really shocked. He was like a kid doing his first film.”

Parr discussed his process of choosing projects to undertake and what drew him to The Last Breath. “What I look for is the character and script and then any previous work,” he said. “So when I got the recall for this they sent the [director’s] previous film, and it was in Swedish, and it was the remake—so they did Breaking Surface, and then they remade that when I watched that, and I was about to head to my recall. I was like, ‘Oh my god, if he offers me this job, I’m going to take it.’ Because he knows, he really knows how to create suspense. He’s a really good storyteller, and coming from a cinematography background, it looks beautiful, it’s tense, I just loved it.”

The Last Breath can be streamed now on Netflix, Fandango and Amazon Prime.
