Apple TV+’s Hello, Jack! stars Jack McBrayer as a kind and humourous resident of Clover Grove.

McBrayer, who is also known for his role as Kenneth in the highly popular 30 Rock, recently sat down with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss why he wanted to make a show about kindness.

“I didn’t see anyone else doing it,” McBrayer said. “Really and truly the idea for the show came form a very personal place in my life where I couldn’t help but notice grown-ups treating each other somewhat unkindly and that confused me. It disappointed me, especially as I thought, ‘These are lessons we should learn at a very young age.’ These are lessons we learned from shows like Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. That’s when things clicked for me. I wanted to do a show that reinforces these concepts and maybe reminds people that have grown past that.”

The actor also spoke on whether or not he wanted to play a character like Jack to differentiate himself from his role as Kenneth.

“Well, if we’re being honest, I’m not that great of an actor!” McBrayer laughed. “No matter how you slice it, you’re going to get a southern guy with big teeth, but I was like, ‘Let’s just lean into it. This is who I am and what I want to do.’ If people are making a correlation with Kenneth, great, I’m not mad at that either. Kenneth was a pretty sunny, optimistic character. At the very least, I want people to know the human Jack McBrayer was very serious about creating an earnest children’s show. Not a satirical or cynical take, but an earnest pre-school show.”

Season 2 of Hello, Jack! is now streaming on Apple TV+.
