VIDEO: Emmy Awards 2012: 'Mad Men,' 'American Horror Story' Lead

Jimmy Kimmel and Kerry Washington announced the nominees for the 64th annual Emmy Awards bright and early this morning, just after 5:30 a.m., in Los Angeles. Washington dressed appropriately for the occasion, and Kimmel wore his pajamas, declaring at one point that "only old people get up this early."

Kimmel and Washington filled in for Parks and Recreations' star Nick Offerman, who was scheduled to announce the Emmy nominations in Los Angeles, but was held up by inclement weather on the East Coast. Somewhere amid jokes and the attire, however, Kimmel and Washington revealed a whopping 17 Emmy nods each for AMC's Mad Men and FX's American Horror Story.

Following closely on their heels was the British, Maggie Smith-helmed series, Downton Abbey, and the miniseries, Hatfields & McCoys, which earned 16 nominations each.

In comedic categories, Modern Family with Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen, ruled the roost with 14 nominations, and new series Girls, helmed by Lena Dunham, and Veep with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, were both recognized.

The 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Kimmel and Washington will be held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 23. It will air on ABC.
