VIDEO: David Letterman Apologies For Lindsay Lohan Mistake

David Letterman is in the middle of a debacle with the least likely of partners, Lindsay Lohan. The trouble began last week when the late night funnyman made a joke on his show's Top Ten list about Lohan being "caught stealing a Grammy," referring to the highly publicized felony theft charges Lohan is currently facing.

Soon after, a man called in to the show saying that he represented Lohan and that she wanted to appear on Late Night to deliver an upcoming Top Ten list. "I get a call and it's a guy who says Lindsay thought the joke was hilarious … she wants to be on your show," Letterman explained on Wednesday night's episode. So I said, 'Great!'"

The caller turned out to be Michael Lohan, the troubled starlet's father, who claimed his daughter "knew full well" that he was trying to book her on the show but her publicists prevented it, according to E!Online. Letterman's people, none the wiser, went ahead issued a press release about the upcoming event, which was meant to air on Thursday's show.

LiLo, however, was not on board with the plans. "I am NOT going to be doing David Letterman, I'm not sure how this happened, but I am sorry for the confusion," the starlet tweeted on Wednesday.

"We made a mistake," Tom Keany, a spokesperson for Worldwide Pants, which produces Late Night with David Letterman, said in a statement. "Someone purporting to be a friend of Lindsay's reached out to the show yesterday, allegedly on her behalf, and booked her to appear. Clearly, this person was not authorized to make commitments on her behalf," he added.

Letterman was also quick to make up for the flub. "So it turns out we were duped and I have no one to blame but myself," he said. "And by the way, now I need to apologize to the Lindsay Lohan family. I hope I didn't embarrass you, Lindsay, and your family." —KIMBERLY STEELE
