It may be President Barack Obama's big day, as he gets sworn in for his second term as President of the United States on this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, but it was the female performers who stole the show from the First Family during the Inauguration Ceremony — Kelly Clarkson when she took the stage to lend her powerful voice to "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and Beyonce, who belted out the National Anthem.
Clarkson made the gathered crowd of approximately 800,000 chuckle when she had a spirited exchange with Obama immediately following her performance, and Beyonce got people speculating when she took out her earpiece, presumable due to sound interference. Her performance, however, was still flawless. James Taylor also performed a brief acoustic version of "America the Beautiful."
