Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie is in Libya today as part of a two-day trip. On Tuesday she met with medical staff and visited wounded patients at a hospital in Misrata, in the northwestern part of the country, USA Today reports. Jolie is also meeting with representatives from UNHCR, the United Nationss refugee agency, as well as with Doctors without Borders and local non-governmental organizations.
Jolie expressed her support for people of the country and praised the efforts of the rebels who overturned Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's government. "I have come to Libya for a variety of reasons, to see a country in transition at every level," Jolie, 36, said in a statement. "I will be meeting with officials from all sides but above all, listening to the local people in the street. I am here to express solidarity with them."
