‘Veep’ Production Paused As Julia Louis-Dreyfus Undergoes Cancer Treatment

Production on the hit HBO comedy Veep has been postponed as star Julia Louis-Dreyfus undergoes cancer treatment.

The 56-year-old actress revealed she her breast cancer diagnosis in late September, just after making history with her sixth consecutive Emmy win for best actress in a comedy category, for playing the same character. HBO has confirmed that production on the seventh and final season of the series will be halted while Louis-Dreyfus undergoes treatment.

“The expectation is we will shoot again,” says Frank Rich, an executive producer on the show. “We have one more season we’re doing, which we’re incredibly excited about.” The actress is still attending table reads with the rest of the cast in Los Angeles. “It’s been quite something because she’s fighting a serious illness and yet wants to keep working as much as circumstances allow, without being crazy about it,” Rich adds.

Louis-Dreyfus has been keeping her fans updated on her condition via her social media pages. “Chemo #2: finito. We are NOT f–king around here. ‘I’ve got the eye of the tiger. The Fighter dancing through the fire cuz I am a champion and you’re going to hear me ROAR.’ Thanks to @mrtonyhale & @timothycsimons & @katyperry for their hilarious and loving inspiration,” she captioned a snap on Instagram on Oct. 19.

The following day she posted a video sent to her from her Veep costars Tony Hale and Tim Simons of the pair dancing to Katy Perry‘s “ROAR,” encouraging her to defeat cancer. “How lucky am I that these bozos have my back? What a moving inspiration to my day. I’ve watched it a gazillion times,” she said.
