Vanessa Bryant Slams Mother Sofía Urbieta For Saying She’s Evicting Her From Her Home
While still reeling from the tragic helicopter crash that killed her husband and daughter earlier this year, Vanessa Bryant is facing even more familial turmoil. The wife of the beloved basketball star, Kobe Bryant, set the record straight in a recent interview regarding her mother Sofía Urbieta and her appearance on Univison, where she claimed Vanessa had evicted from her home and had her possessions sold.
Calamity struck the Bryant family in January when a helicopter carrying Kobe, his young daughter, Gianna Bryant, and seven other passengers crashed into a hillside in Calabasas, with reports saying that weather conditions had disoriented their pilot. The group was traveling to a basketball tournament at a sports facility in Thousand Oaks owned by the family. None of the occupants survived the accident, leaving Vanessa with more questions than answers.
Adding salt to Vanessa’s still healing wounds, Urbieta divulged personal details of her relationship with her daughter on the Spanish language talk show El Gordo y La Flaca. The grandmother to Kobe’s children claimed that Vanessa had forced her to leave her Irvine, California home legally under the name of Erika Williams, the guardian of the Bryant children. She went on to tearfully accuse Vanessa of also selling her car.
The young widow fired back at her mother in a recent interview with E! News. “My husband and daughter passed away unexpectedly and yet my mom has the audacity to do an interview on TV talking negatively about me while shedding tears about a car and home that wasn’t in her name,” Vanessa said. “She has removed all her diamond jewelry, emptied her apartment that I provide, and put the furniture in storage to appear as though she is without support.”
Vanessa noted that her mother had not been in the Bryant’s family’s lives for some time now and that she is given an allowance, while also having an apartment paid for her for the last 20 years.
These events have undoubtedly added further stress to Vanessa, who recently launched a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Sheriff’s office for the alleged leaking of graphic images of the crash by eighth deputies. One of which reportedly attempted to use the photos to impress a woman at a bar according to the lawsuit.
