Vanessa Bryant, the late NBA star Kobe Bryant’s widow, has been criticized for not doing more for the black community. After Kobe’s death, she inherited his wealth, which included a $600 million estate.
During his career, Kobe made millions from his time at the NBA, where he played as a shooting guard and won five NBA rings.
He also made millions through partnerships. Kobe became a brand ambassador for Nike and was among the first stars to sign a shoe deal before he retired in April 2016.
On January 26, 2020, Kobe, along with their 13-year-old daughter, Gianna Bryant, and seven others, died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. A jury later awarded Vanessa damages after police leaked photos of the crash site.
When he died, Nike decided to relaunch several of their signature lines made famous by Kobe. The brand made a promotional video discussing Kobe’s personality and dedication to the game.
Since their deaths, Vanessa has announced a program to help the youth achieve their academic and career goals.
Kobe advocated for the youth in the past, even doing a promotional video about investing in the kids “because they are our future.”
After retiring, he made it his mission to provide children with a positive sports experience. He credits this mission with becoming a father.
“I want to make sure that they’re growing up in a world better than the one we are currently living in,” he said.
After the announcement of Vanessa’s new program, Dr. Umar Johnson, a prominent psychologist, appeared on The Joe Budden Podcast to criticize the plan.
“Is she using any of those money to do good to the black community? Absolutely not,” Johnson said. “Vanessa Bryant just started an initiative with three predominantly white colleges. Some kind of a sports initiative with Kobe’s money and Kobe’s name.”
Kobe talked about his legacy frequently. On Instagram, he posted, “A legacy not left up to fate. But meticulously crafted through dedication and hard work, That’s Mamba.”

Who has the right to say how she spends her money. Not a damn soul can. R.I.P. Kobe
Mr.Bryant's wife doesn't care about the young African American kids, because she is not one. And she's a GREEDY broad, only thinking of herself, if she could she'd get rid of the remaining children.
I Think this is full of it Venessa has no obligation to do for anyone but her Children. Black people always looking for the hand out. She can do whatever she wants with Kobe money it was left for her ave her family. I'm so sick of society wanting parts of Kobe money. Stop Stop Stop this Bull.
Why every time the black community wants black celebrities who died to give money to the black community?
This is her choice and you can’t bully her or give her a guilt trip about it. I would not give it to the black community or any community because it’s my choice.
Funny someone is giving Vanessa a hard time on where and how she spends her money. What they should be doing is giving BLM a hard time. Dr. Umar should be shaking down BLM and ask them where they spent their money💰
Kobe left her money to take care of her and his children. So now this dude is trying to shake her down for money??! He needs to get out there and do that himself if it is so important to him. It's not her job to make this psychologist happy. It is her job to do what makes her happy. This man seems to forget she lost a child and a husband. Maybe he needs to fo back and study what he was supposed to learn as a student and not criticize someone who is in mourning!!
It's her money she can do whatever she wants with it. I'm sure no one is willing to share her pain.
Leave that woman alone. She free to do what she want to do with her money. Ask yourself what have I done for the Black Community? You know a little goes a long way.
You left the part out about how Vanessa‘s mother challenged the trust to get her self inserted for financial support, when they opened it up to include Kobe‘s newest daughter. This mother is greedy.
He is Gone RIP so not his money. Everyone is free to give there support to who ever they want.
