Van Halen’s reunion tour was canceled due to an ongoing feud between David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen before Eddie’s death.
Eddie died of cancer in October 2020. Alex Van Halen, the band’s drummer and Eddie’s brother, opened up about the band’s struggles during an interview with Rolling Stone.
“The thing that broke the camel’s back, and I can be honest about this now, was I said, ‘Dave, at some point, we have to have a very overt – not bowing – but an acknowledgment of Ed in the gig,'” Alex said. “‘If you look at how Queen does it, they show old footage.’ And the moment I said we gotta acknowledge Ed, Dave popped a fuse… The vitriol that came out was unbelievable.”
“It’s just, my God. It’s like I didn’t know him anymore,” Alex continued. “I have nothing but the utmost respect for his work ethic and all that. But, Dave, you gotta work as a community. It’s not you alone anymore.”
Alex said he wasn’t too upset by the cancellation of the tour, as he is still recovering from a back injury he sustained in 2022.
Roth has not commented on these accusations.
In 2022, Roth canceled his Las Vegas residency after he contracted Covid-19.
