‘Vampire Diaries’ Stars Paul Wesley & Phoebe Tonkin Reportedly Split

Former Vampire Diaries costars Phoebe Tonkin, 27, and Paul Wesley, 34, have reportedly split after four years of dating.

The pair met on set in 2012 and began dating the following summer. They were last seen together on Dec. 20, 2016. Tonkin had a recurring role on the show’s fourth season, but left when her character got a spot on The Originals in 2013.

Wesley spoke about meeting Tonkin and their first scene together last year, saying it was “cool” and “nice.” “It was crazy, I had never worked with her before,” he said. “It was very funny, we talked about it, but we literally never rehearsed [the scene] or ran it. We just said, ‘Let’s just do it when we get to set,’ because otherwise it would just be awkward, and it was cool. It actually wasn’t in the least bit uncomfortable or awkward. It was just kind of like we just did it and we were both in it and we both committed to it. It was nice, it was funny.”

“They are still good friends,” said a source. Wesley was previously married to actress Torrey DeVitto, but they divorced officially in 2013 after two years.

The Vampire Diaries series finale is coming Friday, and Wesley, who plays main character Stefan, is ready to move on. “Saying goodbye to the character Stefan and the things that came along with being on the show [was hard],” he said. “Honestly, the show went on for so long that you sort of start saying goodbye by Season 6. It’s not a sudden jolt — you’re already starting to transition into a different phase in your life. So it wasn’t like I was splashed in the face with cold water and in complete shock. I’ve sort of been saying my slow goodbye to the character for about three years now, which I’m grateful for because it makes it easier to transition.”
