The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder recently proclaimed that he would not be returning to Hollywood anytime soon.

Somerhalder, 45, moved to a farm outside of Los Angeles with his wife, Niki Reed, and their children a few years ago. The actor spoke at the Environmental Media Association Awards Gala on Saturday, where he discussed his current business endeavors.

“We’re building three companies at the same time, raising kids,” Somerhalder told People. He is the co-founder of The Absorption Company and Rare Birds Productions, both of which he runs alongside Reed, as well as Brother’s Bond Bourbon, which he launched with The Vampire Diaries co-star Paul Wesley.

“I loved what I did for a really long time,” Somerhalder told E! News about his acting career. “I don’t miss any of it. I love making films, and I just did it for so long. We had an amazing run.”

Somerhalder and Reed are known for their environmental activism. In 2023, Somerhalder produced the film Common Ground, which centered around saving the climate and providing a better environment to enable healthy farming.
