Usher Breaks Down In Custody Trial
Hip-hop star Usher Raymond, 33, took the stand in the custody trial against ex-wife Tameka Foster, 40, over the former couple's two boys, Usher V, 4, and Naviyd, 3, in Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday, and at one point his emotions got the better of him, as he choked up and wiped tears his eyes.
Usher and Foster were married between 2007 and 2009. Foster is fighting for full custody of Usher V and Naviyd, while Usher wants visitation rights. When Foster's lawyer began suggesting that Usher is more interested in partying than taking care of his two sons, Usher began to get emotional in the courtroom.
He was then grilled about alleged drug use, at which point Usher admitted to having smoked marijuana in the past, but maintained that he had never participated in drug use around his children, despite what his ex Foster had previously claimed, reports USA Today.
Instead, Usher claimed that Foster had been abusive toward him and his current girlfriend, manager and stylist Grace Miguel. Usher testified that Foster once approached him and Miguel in their car like "she wanted to fight." Foster allegedly said, "'I'm gonna kick your a–, b—h,'" to Miguel, quoted Usher. She then "continued to swing, spit, at this point she had pulled the door open and began to pull Ms. Miguel." In response, Usher testified that he and Miguel "exchanged words. I just told her this was no way to act."
Foster has a different take on the situation, maintaining that Usher has a history of failing to pay for the children's nannies, owing her up to $34,000 in child care, reports ABC News. She also called him out on his relationship with Miguel. "If he's gone for months at a time and comes back traipsing in with his girlfriend, it was embarrassing."
The custody trial will continue this week in Atlanta.
