University Of Kentucky Student Sophia Rosing, Who Called Black Student A Slur 200 Times In Viral Video, Faces Felony Charges

A student at the University of Kentucky was arrested on Sunday for attacking a black student and calling her a racial slur over 200 times.

Videos of the incident went viral on TikTok showing Sophia Rosing, 22, repeatedly telling student worker Kylah Spring “you’re a n—– and you’re a b—-.”

Spring was working an overnight shift in the residence hall and was concerned when she saw a very intoxicated Rosing come into the building. Spring called a resident adviser to check on the drunk student when Rosing began to verbally assault her.

Videos show Rosing punching and kicking Spring, meanwhile repeating racial slurs and verbal attacks. Spring can be heard saying calmly “I do not get paid enough for this,” while dodging swings from Rosing.

The college senior was arrested around 4 a.m. on charges of public intoxication, fourth-degree assault, second-degree disorderly conduct and third-degree assault on a police officer.

The University of Kentucky released a statement Sunday morning condemning Rosing’s behavior in the videos.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and we will not tolerate behavior that threatens it,” the university said.

In response to the incident, U.K. students organized a march on campus to protest the racism displayed by the student. Videos show marchers chanting “no justice, no peace,” and “protect black women.”

At the event, Spring spoke tearfully to the crowd. She introduced herself as a freshman in her first semester at the university.

“In the wee hours of Sunday morning, I was physically, verbally and racially assaulted by Jane Doe, AKA, Sophia Rosing, a 22-year-old student here at the University of Kentucky,” she said. “Since then, I have taken to social media to spread awareness.”

Spring’s mother also spoke at the event.

“We are tired,” she said. “But we will always find the energy, the resources, the time, the gas money to pull up for our children.”

On Monday, Rosing posted several stories apologizing on her Instagram.

Rosing has since lost her position as a student influencer with Dillard’s. She is banned from returning to the dormitory, consuming alcohol and contacting Spring, according to the terms of her bail, which was set at $10,000.

Rosing now faces felony charges for the incident.
