Investigators have discovered unidentified human remains in the open desert of Yucca Valley while searching for Lauren Cho, a New Jersey woman who was reported missing in June.
“The family is just holding our collective breaths. We so badly desire answers, but already feel the heartbreak of what the answer could be,” Cho’s sister told CNN.
Cho, who went by the nickname ‘El,’ went missing when she was staying with friends, including her ex-boyfriend, and left the home while she was upset without her personal belongings. Her ex-boyfriend reported her missing three hours after she left, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBSD).
Investigators have said the ex-boyfriend “indicated she was suffering from mental distress.”
Police, as well as her family and friends, have been searching for her in the months since she was gone missing.
It will take weeks to identify who the remains belong to. Cho’s family has started a public Facebook page to raise awareness of her case, and hopefully, discover any information they can.
“El is many things… a talented musician, an incredible baker, a hilarious and loyal friend, a strangely intuitive gift giver, and probably the coolest sister one could hope for. But this is where El really shines: as an aunt,” the family said in a post last month.
