Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Office Denies He Agreed To An Interview With Tucker Carlson

The office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied that he agreed to an interview with the conservative commentator Tucker Carlson.

Carlson announced in an X post on July 3 that he might have secured an interview with Zelenskyy.

“Looks like we’ve got the Zelenskyy interview,” he wrote. “We’ve been trying for two years, and with particular intensity after interviewing Putin in February. The point is to bring Americans much-needed information about the conflict that’s completely reshaping their country’s position in the world. Coming soon, we hope.”

His announcement had received mixed reactions on social media.

“This will be excellent, and there’s no one more suited for the task than you,” the parody account user responded to the conservative commentator on Wednesday. “You will pose the difficult questions and ensure he is held accountable.”

“Please don’t go to Ukraine to do it,” another user stated. “Do it somewhere like Hungary. Neutral territory.”

On July 4, the Ukrainian president’s office shut down speculation of the interview.

“Mr. Tucker Carlson should check his FSB sources more carefully,” presidential spokesperson Sergii Nykyforov stated in a Facebook post made on Thursday, alluding to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB). “The president of Ukraine has a completely different schedule, and Tucker Carlson is not on it.”

Ukrainian social media users replied negatively to Nykyforov’s statement.

“Good luck in the further push of American support of Ukraine,” one user wrote.

“I think it’s a big mistake, sorry,” another user named Andriy Ozorovych stated.

During an interview at the World Government Summit 2024 in late February, Carlson was mocked for declaring that Moscow was a far nicer than any American city.

Carlson’s interview with Putin was widely derided for its odd, softball questions, with even Putin panning it

As of late May, Carlson’s show regularly airs on Russia’s state-run television channel, Rossiya 24, even though he asserted that he was not involved.

Dean Thompson, the head of programming and production at the Tucker Carlson Network, declared that “any use of our content on that channel is without legal permission.”
