Ukrainian forces claimed to have sunk the Russian Black Sea Fleet warship in Crimea on Wednesday night.
Special unite “Group 13” reportedly attacked the hull of the Ivanovets, a Russian corvette stationed in northwest Crimea. As of Thursday afternoon, Russia’s Ministry of Defense has not acknowledged the incident.
Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence has not released details about the attack, but footage suggests that at least four naval drones were utilized. The drones can be seen hitting the stern and leaving a hole on the port side of the ship.
The Russian vessel is estimated to be worth $60-70 million, according to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence.
Though Ukraine has been stalled on the battlefield after its counteroffensive last spring failed to achieve significant gains, it has seen increasing success in hitting Russia within its borders. Last month, Ukraine downed a $330 million Russian spy plane.
