Jamie Anderson, the U.S. women’s snowboarding star, took home the gold in the Slopestyle event at the Sochi 2014 Olympics.

Jamie Anderson Wins Gold At Sochi

Anderson, 23, scored an impressive 95.25 out of 100 for her second run down the slopes on Sunday. Finland’s Enni Rukajarvi earned the silver with a score of 92.50, while Great Britain’s Jenny Jones won the bronze with 87.25 points.

Coming into her second run, Anderson knew she had to earn high marks. She’d only received 80.75 points for her first run, and after her second go down the slope, two more snowboarders would have a chance to top her. The pressure, though notable, wasn’t easy to discern as Anderson began her effort.

In the all-important 45-seconds, Anderson was flawless on the rails and landed two 720s with ease. Although the run guaranteed her a medal, she had to wait for the other two athletes to make their second trip down the slope to celebrate her first-place finish.

"It was frickin' mind blowing," Anderson said after the event, according to USA Today Sports. "What a day."

"I was really passionate and determined to come out here and do my best and do everything I can to be my strongest and most grounded, calm self, even with the hype of everything on the outside world," she added. "It just feels out of control. I can't even explain what I'm processing right now."

The U.S. also captured the gold in the men’s snowboarding slopestyle event, in which underdog Sage Kostsenburg beat out Staale Sandbech and Mark McMorris last week.
