The U.S. Coast Guard called off its search mission for the Australian man who fell overboard off a cruise ship this week near the Hawaiian coast.
Warwick Tollemache, the 35-year-old passenger, boarded the Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas trip from Brisbane to Honolulu. On Tuesday, he fell into the ocean 500 miles south of Kailua Kona, Big Island.
The cruise ship remained there for two hours to locate the missing passenger before reporting it to the local authorities.

After the passenger wasn’t found, they notified the local authorities, “While on its trans-Pasific sailing, a guest onboard Quantum of the Seas went overboard. The ship’s crews immediately launched a search and rescue operation and is working closely with local authorities,” said a spokesperson for the Royal Caribbean.
The following day Coast Guard aircrew examined the water and completed five searches in the span of six hours. On Thursday, the search was called off by the Coast Guard after speaking with Tollemache’s family.
“Our family is heartbroken at the loss of our beloved Warwick. He was a kind, beautiful, and gentle soul who was adored by everyone who knew him,” said Mandy Tollemache. “He will be deeply missed.”
