Tyrese Gibson’s Ex Wife Asks Court For Restraining Order Against Him To Stop Online Harassment, Pay For Her Counseling Costs

Norma Mitchell, the ex-wife of actor Tyrese Gibson, intensified her efforts to put an end to his online harassment by filing for a restraining order.

According to documents, Mitchell has urged the court to intervene and prevent Gibson from publicly addressing their disputes on social media platforms.

Mitchell alleges that The Fast & The Furious star’s defamatory remarks have had a profound emotional impact on her and seeks not only to halt the harassment but also to ensure that Gibson stays away from their daughter, Shayla, 16. In her filing, Mitchell highlights the repetitive nature of Gibson’s criticism on social media. Specifically, he cites five dates—April 30, May 1, May 2, May 6 and May 7—in which he allegedly made false and sensitive information available to their daughter, friends, family and the public.

The filing requests that the court order Gibson to cease his persistent harassment, refrain from any direct contact with Mitchell and stay away from her residence, workplace and vehicle. Mitchell seeks similar protection for their daughter.

Mitchell further accused Gibson of causing her emotional harm through a “public cyber harassment campaign” on his Instagram page, where he posted a series of defamatory messages about her to his 20.4 million followers. The most recent post is dated May 7. In addition to the Instagram harassment, Mitchell alleges that Gibson also sent her a harassing message on the co-parenting app Our Family Wizard, which violates the court’s child custody orders.

The court-mandated orders prohibit Gibson from making derogatory remarks about Mitchell, expressing anger toward her, or discussing custody matters in front of their daughter. Mitchell argued that Gibson breached these directives since Shayla follows him on Instagram. She expressed deep concern for herself and her daughter and emphasized their distress and anxiety caused by Gibson’s actions. Mitchell implored the court to intervene and demanded that Gibson cease his abusive posts and remove their private information from public view.

As part of her plea, Mitchell requests that Gibson cover the costs of her counseling bills for the emotional damage he inflicted on her. The amount requested totals $22,280, which covers 104 weeks of therapy sessions, along with an additional $12,480 for other necessary treatments.

Court documents reveal that Gibson’s posts included false accusations against Mitchell, such as claims of blackmail, extortion, death threats, tax evasion, forgery, bank fraud, wire fraud and money laundering. Mitchell asserts that these defamatory actions have also infringed upon her daughter’s privacy rights. Gibson’s unredacted copy of the motion shared on Instagram contained sensitive content, such as their daughter’s full name, birth date and address.

Mitchell alleges that due to Gibson’s misinformation and the subsequent public attention they garnered, she and her daughter have been unwillingly thrust into the spotlight under stressful circumstances.
