Now that her daytime talk show has wrapped, Tyra Banks is putting her fee time to good use by going back to school. The 37-year-old media personality is enrolled in the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard Business School, having been attending classes since last year, People reports. The program, which does not issue a degree upon completion, is designed for "senior executives who are major equity stakeholders in companies with annual sales of at least $5 million," and has a flexible schedule that requires students to participate in intensive three-week sessions, once a year for three years.
With a multi-million dollar empire and a career that has spanned television, books and music, higher education may not seem essential at this point, however, Banks feels it is necessary to move her company forward. "In order for my company to grow and be the best, and to reach these women, and to serve them, I needed the best. So I went to the best," Banks told CBS News recently. And what does she have to say to those who scoff at the idea of a former model hitting the books at the world's most prestigious university? "When people have low expectations, you're just constantly going, 'Ta-da!' And they're like, 'Wow,'" she said. "It doesn't take a lot to wow them when they have low expectations."
At 17-years-old, Banks famously bypassed her freshmen year at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles to take her chances at a modeling career in Paris. Looks like everything worked out for the best. —EMILY EXTON
