Five hundred first edition hardcover copies of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, by J.K. Rowling, have contain a typo, which make the books worth about $33,700 to Bonhams Fine Books and Manuscripts.
Check your books. On page 53 of just 500 copies of the first edition hardcover copies, in the chapter entitles ‘Diagon Alley,’ Harry’s list of Hogwarts school supplies repeats the line item “1 wand.”
Bonhams Fine Books and Manuscripts will be accepting these copies for almost $34K. “The proof reading error about the wand in the first edition,” explains Matthew Haley, Head of Books and Manuscripts at Bonhams, “has, of course, become a treasured piece of Harry Potter arcana.”
