Tyler Hoechlin, the former Teen Wolf star, has been cast as Superman in the second season of CW’s recently acquired DC Comics series Supergirl — the network announced on Thursday.
Hoechlin will make his debut at the start of the next season, when Superman decides to visit Kara (Melissa Benoist) in National City.
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” said Andrew Kreisberg, executive producer of Supergirl. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
Kreisberg, who also co-created the CW’s other hero shows, The Flash, Arrow and Legends Of Tomorrow, explained in past interviews that Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman were off limits to the DC-related TV series.
However, changes have been made as part of the reorganization at Warner Bros, which saw a shift in management of the studio’s ongoing DC Universe films due to critics and audience response to Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
Hoechlin most recently starred in Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some!, and will also be seen in the upcoming British action-thriller Stratton: First Into Action, which previously set to star Henry Cavill, who played Superman in Dawn Of Justice.
