Twitter Takes On Thanksgiving: Free Tips For The Perfect Turkey

Thanksgiving is almost upon us, which means that moms and dads and aunts and uncles across the nation are getting ready to serve what they all hope will be the perfect turkey, and this year social media is getting in on the action.

From Good Morning America to some of the country’s most beloved supermarkets, experts are on board to answer the inevitable turkey-preparation questions from panicked occasional chefs. Linked to Good Morning America‘s website, for example, is a page that encourages people to fill out a form and ask their last-minute Thanksgiving prep quandary, “and Sara Mouton might answer your question live on GMA,” they write.

But choosy chefs are choosing Twitter for their last-minute turkey advice. Wegmans Food Markets are streamlining their tips, following the success of last year’s #Turkey911 Twitter chat, the brainchild of Executive Chef Mark Makovec. “There are always questions, whether someone is cooking the feast for the very first time or has been doing it for years,” he said, reports International Supermarket News. “We know our customers are especially busy during the holidays, and this is a way to provide some on-the-go guidance in a way that some find most convenient,” he said.

Live chat will be up and running Monday, November 19 through Wenesday, November 21, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, to those who submit questions to @Wegmans using the hashtag #turkey911. And the Twitter-tip-account is already pretty popular with guests.

Some pieces of advice already out there? “#Turkey911 cover turkey w/ foil or roast uncovered? /via @courtneywright1” cover loosely w/ foil “tent”-no basting + prevents overbrowning,” Makovec, who refers to himself as “Chef Mark,” in the posts, writes.

But don’t forget about the beverages, Chef Mark reminds his loyal twitter followers. “TurkeyTip 8: Our Beer Merchant’s Pairings for Thanksgiving “4 Brews to be Thankful For.”

And Wegman’s isn’t the only one with useful tips. Read below for useful turkey advice on Twitter.
